In this review:
This publication is intended as an educational resource for health care professionals with an interest in
genomic profiling. The review discusses the topic of genomic profiling in cancer patients and its impact
on cancer therapy. New techniques such as hybrid capture-based next-generation sequencing (NGS),
also referred to as massive parallel sequencing (MPS), provide insights into the genomic profile of a
particular cancer and engender the best possible treatment for each patient. Such comprehensive profiling allows for the planning of future treatments should the disease progress. Genomic profiling is not only helping to improve cancer patient outcomes by matching known alterations driving cancer to currently available therapies, thus enabling personalised care, but is also providing new insights and guiding the development of new targeted therapy.
